What Is Hanukkah?
An International Art Exhibition
(December 10 through January 31, 2021)
BIO
I'm a sculptor from Israel and have been living in Vancouver with the love of my life since 2015. Art was always an important part of my life. Even as a child, you could have never seen me without a piece of material in my hands, trying to give it a life of its own. Somehow when choosing a major in college, I chose industrial design over art. During 3 years of studies I was lucky enough to gain great friends, knowledge about tools and techniques, though I didn't get to be an industrial designer. Eventually, I figured out this path wasn't quite right for me. Sometimes we take a wrong turn, only to get to the right place. Sculpting feels like home to me.
STATEMENT
Hanukkah is the holiday of lights and miracles. It's a time of awakening to the marvels of this world and of awareness to life's light, a time of growth and evolving. We all have a light within us, we just need to find it. In my sculpture I chose to reflect this concept by creating two hands that complete one another and create a whole. Out of this unity something bright and new is growing. As I see it, we don't need anything or anyone outside of ourselves to be whole, we just need to accept ourselves for who we are and see our own special light and let it shine through us, and what better time than the holiday of lights?!
