Artist Statement: The Crystal Lotus Lake of Devotion: A lotus flower represents fortune and purification in the Buddhist tradition. This painting was the first of a series of mixed media pieces. The glass frit represents her love of shimmering light, sparkles one sees on a sunny day over a calm body of water. The mind, when it is calm like a glassy lake, reflects truth. When the mind is turbulent it cannot attain truth. The artist is devoted to releasing light into the world through artistic cultivation. The artist has been a Zen student for over 35 years. Her Buddhist name is JiHwa, which means wisdom flower.
